Six and eight lane wide expressway from Gorakhpur to Siliguri will be built by 2025. This is the fifth expressway of the state. The Central Government has given in-principle consent on this and the process of preparing the DPR has started. With this, better connectivity will be available between Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal and this road will pass through ten districts of the state, which will lead to economic development of the state. Three alignments of this road have come to the fore, out of which a decision will be taken.
The proposed expressway will enter Gopalganj district from Gorakhpur and go to Siliguri via Siwan, Chhapra, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Saharsa, Purnia and Kishanganj. The entire part of this expressway will be greenfield. According to sources, out of these three, the proposal of one alignment has been sent by NHAI to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways under Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-II.
According to this, the length of the road is about 514 km and the estimated cost is about 27 thousand 709 crores. The same, in the second alignment, the length is about 473 km and the estimated cost is about 25 thousand 50 crores. The length in the third alignment is about 515 km and the estimated cost is about 25 thousand 161 crores.
Traveling to Delhi will also be easy
According to sources, there is currently a four-lane NH-27 from Gorakhpur to Siliguri, but due to the high pressure of traffic on it, it is not possible to move at a high speed. In such a situation, it takes about 12-13 hours to go from Gorakhpur to Siliguri. The same, due to the construction of a new expressway, the distance from Gorakhpur to Siliguri will be reduced by about 600 km.
At the same time, the traffic time is also likely to be reduced by about six hours. This expressway will also have connectivity with other roads including Gorakhpur-Azamgarh Link Expressway. In this way, it will be easy to travel from Siliguri to the major cities of Uttar Pradesh as well as to Delhi.
Work started for Aurangabad-Jayanagar road
This proposed road between Gorakhpur to Siliguri will be the fifth expressway of Bihar. The land has been acquired for the construction of the first expressway between Aurangabad and Jaynagar and soon its tender will be issued. The same, second expressway is proposed between Raxaul to Haldia, third from Patna to Kolkata and fourth expressway from Buxar to Bhagalpur.
