Dharmendra has already seen the face of defeat in the assembly elections. In 2010, Dharmendra contested from Chainpur assembly constituency on RJD ticket. He got around 20 thousand votes. BJP candidate Brijkishore Bind defeated Dharmendra. Brijkishore Bind also became a minister.

Bhagwanpur block falls in Chainpur assembly constituency. Mahabali Singh Kushwaha got the opportunity to represent Chainpur Vis area many times. He was also a minister in various departments in the RJD government. Won for the first time on a BSP ticket. He joined JDU through RJD. He is representing Karakat parliamentary constituency consisting of Rohtas and Kaimur districts. He defeated Upendra Kushwaha in the election.

In the last election, JD(U) had fielded Mahabali Singh from the Karakat Lok Sabha constituency on behalf of the NDA. He defeated the then RLSP candidate and former Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha by 84542 votes. Mahabali Singh got 398408 votes and Upendra Kushwaha got 313866 votes.
